Walk through the tanneries of Fez or the woodworkers’ souk in Essaouira and you will find craftsmen doing work that has not changed in six hundred years. Then follow one of their bags or mirrors through the supply chain — through a wholesaler, an exporter, an importer, a distributor, a retailer — and watch a piece that left the workshop for a modest sum arrive in a store at eight times the price, with the artisan’s name removed and a brand label sewn in its place.
We cut that chain out. Our pieces ship from the workshop to your door.
What We Sell
Leather bags from Fez, tanned in the same pits that have operated since the eleventh century. Ceramics thrown and painted by hand from local Fez clay. Thuya wood carved in Essaouira from burl root that grows nowhere else on earth. Poufs stitched and embroidered in Marrakech.
Everything is made by hand by people who learned the trade from someone who learned it from someone else. Nothing is factory-produced.
Why Things Look Different From Each Other
Every piece we sell varies from the next. The grain in a thuya frame, the depth of tooling on a bag flap, the exact line of a painted pattern — these differ because a person made them, one at a time, without a machine setting the tolerance.
We think that is the point. If you want two objects that match perfectly, buy them from a factory. If you want an object with a maker’s hand visible in it, buy it from us.
