Vegetable-Tanned Leather
The leather is vegetable-tanned, cured slowly with bark and plant extracts rather than chemicals. This is the older and slower method, and it is why the bag ages the way it does. Chrome-tanned leather stays the same color for years and then cracks. Vegetable-tanned leather does the opposite — it darkens, softens, and takes on a patina that records where the bag has been. A caramel bag becomes a deep amber. A dark brown becomes almost black at the corners where hands touch it most.

The hide is thick enough to hold its shape when the bag is empty, but it breaks in within a few weeks of daily use.

Hand-Tooled Detailing
The front flap is embossed by hand with traditional Moroccan motifs — interlocking diamonds, eight-point stars, and symmetrical botanical patterns drawn from the geometry found in zellige tilework and carved cedar ceilings. Wipe with a dry cloth to remove dust. Apply a neutral leather conditioner every three to four months to keep the hide supple. Avoid prolonged soaking — if the bag gets wet, let it air-dry away from direct heat. Small scratches can usually be rubbed out with your finger; the natural oils in the leather will close them.

Store it stuffed with paper when not in use so it holds its shape.
