This handmade Moroccan leather travel bag is the piece you buy once. Cut from full-grain vegetable-tanned hide and stitched by hand in a Fez workshop, it is sized for two or three nights away and built to survive twenty years of them.

Nylon duffles fail at the zipper, the strap anchor, or the seam — usually within a few years, and always without warning. Leather fails slowly or not at all. The hide used here is full-grain, meaning the outer layer of the skin was never sanded down to hide imperfections, so it retains the tight fiber structure that makes leather strong in the first place.

Vegetable tanning cures the hide with bark extracts over weeks rather than chemicals over hours. The result is a leather that darkens and softens with use instead of cracking.

Capacity and Layout

The main compartment opens wide with a brass zipper running the full length of the top, so you can see and reach everything without unpacking. Inside it holds two or three days of clothes, shoes, and a toiletry bag comfortably.

Two exterior pockets take the things you need in transit — passport, charger, book, boarding pass — without opening the main compartment in a queue.

Rolled leather handles are stitched through reinforced anchor points and wrapped at the center where your hand sits. A detachable, adjustable shoulder strap with a padded pad lets you carry it hands-free when the bag is full and heavy.

Breaking It In

New vegetable-tanned leather is firm. The bag will feel stiff for the first few trips, then relax into a softer shape that holds whatever you pack. The color deepens over the first year — a tan bag becomes honey, a brown bag becomes espresso — and the areas your hands touch darken faster than the rest. This is the patina, and it is the reason people keep these bags for decades.

Care Instructions

Wipe with a dry cloth after each trip. Condition with a neutral leather balm two or three times a year, and more often if you travel through dry climates.

If the bag gets wet, let it air-dry at room temperature. Never use a hairdryer, radiator, or direct sun — rapid drying stiffens and cracks the fibers permanently.

Empty and store it loosely stuffed with paper so the sides hold their shape between trips. Do not compress it flat under other luggage for long periods.

Natural Variation
